Seething in the Heat

I am in a mood to throw things at computer programmers so stay clear of me.

Maybe not programmers but people who design the customer service bots at supermarkets. I have been trying to book a slot on Sunday for my weekly grocery delivery from Sainsbury’s. Since yesterday evening the online site tells me when I click on ‘book a delivery’ ‘Something went wrong. Please try again.’

If I try ringing the local store or the central Sainsbury’s switchboard they (standard robot voice no 3 variety of ‘they’) want to know my delivery number. Which I haven’t got yet because I can’t complete the booking. If I try the Facebook chat the nice robot there dangles the promise of talking to a real purpose but first wants my to specify which of the following problems I am having…

Which leads me back to the same page on the website that isn’t working.

None of these people have ever played let alone written one of those choose your own adventure books. How is such cultural ignorance possible?

I’ll give Sainsbury’s another chance tomorrow but after that I’ll have to see what Tesco has to offer. Or even Morrisons gawdelpme.

Damned if I’m going shopping in this weather.
